1. How does WeatherBug work?
By default, WeatherBug will start when you start Windows. The program may also be found in the Windows
START menu. Please keep in mind that WeatherBug must access the Internet to get data. By default, WeatherBug
is designed to dial your Internet connection periodically to get updates (this feature may be turned off
in the WeatherBug SETUP/OPTIONS menu).
WeatherBug will start minimized as an icon in your system tray (lower, right corner of computer screen).
This icon will be a current temperature reading if WeatherBug has been able to access data. If WeatherBug
cannot access data, the icon will appear as a green ladybug (or other symbol as determined by the sponsor). Clicking this icon will bring up the WeatherBug in full screen.
The WeatherBug menu may be found by either right clicking the icon in the system tray or by clicking the
arrow in the top, left corner of the full WeatherBug screen.
You may change zip codes and weather stations by clicking WeatherBug
SETUP. User options are under the PREFERENCES tab.
For an overview of WeatherBug, please take a TOUR!
2. How do I configure WeatherBug (Preferences)?
In the SETUP window, the user may change the zip code to monitor different
locations. Please ensure that you are connected to the Internet and
click the REFRESH… button.
Under the PREFERENCES tab, accessible through the WeatherBug SETUP window, the user may select starting functions,
the auto-dialing function, the serial port for the optional AWS Weather Digital
Display, the startup feature, open to full display or minimized to tray, and customizing the Tray Temperature icon.
At this time, WeatherBug users do not have a choice over default radar or InstaCam locations. Also,
WeatherBug freeware does not allow the user to change the WeatherBug custom background or overall
The WeatherBug menu, found by right clicking the WeatherBug icon in the System Tray (lower, right corner
of computer screen), allows the user to terminate (close) the WeatherBug program, enable or disable
real-time access, find the WeatherBug registration number (under "About WeatherBug"), access WeatherBug
SETUP/OPTIONS as well as several other items of interest to the user.
3. How do I start WeatherBug?
Click Windows START and then "WeatherBug."
4. How do I stop the WeatherBug program?
Please right click the WeatherBug icon in your System Tray (lower, right of computer screen near the clock)
and select TERMINATE.
5. How do I keep WeatherBug from starting when I start Windows?
CLick WeatherBug SETUP and then the PREFERENCES tab. Un-check the box: "Enable WeatherBug, on startup..."
6. Where are the WeatherBug menus?
The WeatherBug menu may be found by right clicking the WeatherBug icon in the System Tray or by clicking the
arrow at the top, left corner of the full WeatherBug screen.
7. Can I use WeatherBug outside of the U.S.?
WeatherBug freeware accesses U.S. weather stations only.
8. Is there a Macintosh version of WeatherBug?
There currently is no Macintosh version of WeatherBug available. While we do hope to be able to produce a Macintosh version in the future, we do not currently have a specific time frame for this project.
