After a good night sleep we got up between 6 and 6.30 a.m. Eric got our email working and this meant we had our laptop operational. We had a good breakfast and were looking forward to our interview with KXAS NBC 5 In Dallas, Texas.
We arrived at the studios at 09.45 after a 25 minute drive and had to wait a few minutes before Jenny, the assistant producer picked us up. We watched television as they already announced the interview with the Dutch storm chasers. It brought some big smiles on our faces. We were thinking what our American storm chase friends would think if they saw us. Jenny was very kind and showed us around a bit. Only two of us could do the interview so we discussed who would go “on air”. We decided Rob and Eric would do it with Jules and Coen watching it from behind the cameras.
Rob and Eric were placed at a table and just a minute before the interview our host appeared. Rebecca Miller, one of the meteorologists at NBC 5, had to do the weather forecast just before that. She introduced herself and the interview started. She asked some questions about the weather in Holland and our plans for the coming weeks. Meanwhile they showed some pictures of previous chases.
After the interview Rebecca showed us around in the studio and explained what information they use to make the weather forecasts. We had a look at some ongoing thunderstorms in the Texas panhandle but were not alarmed by them. As everybody at NBC 5, Rebecca was very kind and after our tour we said goodbye to Rebecca and Jenny.
We went to a Wallmart and got the rest of the things needed. Among them were some pillows (for sleeping in the van) and a printer to take a good look at the weather maps in the van. We had lunch there and installed everything in and on the van. From then on there were regular smiles and thumbs up from people passing bye as most people respect storm chasers and are interested in their stories.
We left Dallas at 14.00 and headed towards Oklahoma. We hope for some decent storms tomorrow which are possible somewhere north. After a few hours’ drive, we checked in at 16.30 p.m. at Pauls Valley. Tomorrow we might get into our first chase of this year!
