Day 17, May 31, 2002
Route: From South Padre Island to San Antonio in Texas.
Highlights: A swim in the Mexican Gulf and a nice evening out in San Antonio
Text: Coen Verrijn Stuart
In the morning we relaxed on the beach of South Padre Island. We then drove to San Antonio where we spent a nice evening out on our last day in the U.S..
Around 9 AM we wake up after a good night's sleep. Although we do not expect to chase again we take a look at today's weather maps. There is a risk of tornadoes near the Canadian border but that is even too far for us! Therefore we spend the morning relaxing on the beach. It is rather warm as we are not used to the very high humidity with dew points around 73 degrees. We take a swim and see some pelicans chasing for fish.
As we have to leave from Dallas tomorrow afternoon, we already drive a few hours later in the day. Around 8 PM we reach San Antonio where we find a hotel downtown. We have a nice meal in a sports bar where we watch the match between the LA Lakers and the Sacramento Kings.
After dinner we go out in the city. It is hard to find but there is a very nice canal downtown with a lot of bars and restaurants. We are suprised but it is great. We dance until 2 AM and finally our tired legs bring us back to the hotel.
