Day 18, June 1, 2002
Route: From San Antonio (Tx) to Holland.
Highlights: Coming home and seeing our family and friends
Text: Coen Verrijn Stuart
We drove to Dallas and flew to London at 4.30 PM. The next morning we flew from London to Amsterdam where we met our girlfriends again.
We went to bed late yesterday so we sleep to 9 AM. After a quick breakfast we get all our equipment out of the van and put it in our suitcases. Around 10.15 AM we leave San Antonio and 5 hours later we reach Dallas. We bring back our van and arrive at the airport one hour before our flight is scheduled to leave. We are put on hold as we are rather late and the plane is very full. After 10 minutes we can check in after all and the plane takes off around 4.45 PM.
In the plane we try to get some sleep and we land in London around 7.15 AM after an 8 hour flight. The time difference is 6 hours so it was a short night. We have to wait for 2 hours and get a good breakfast. At 9.15 AM we leave London and arrive in Amsterdam around 11.30 AM (another hour time difference). Our girlfriends are there to welcome us and that's great. We have really missed them!
Looking back at this year's chase we are somewhat dissapointed about the weather pattern during our stay. High pressure was dominating most of the time which is not a good thing for tornadic activity. But we did manage to chase 4 storms with a tornado warning and we did see several powerful thunderstorms. Furthermore we had a great time and we learned more about severe weather which is important as well!
It was fun to do the interviews and make the diary for you all! Hopefully you have enjoyed reading it and maybe you have learned more about storm chasing. If you have more questions about tornadoes or storm chasing, don't hesitate to mail.
We thank AWS for the opportunity to be on the WeatherBug and hope to be back with our stories next year! In the meantime stay healthy and watch out for severe weather!
