An Arctic blast will bring a combination of bitter cold temperatures and rounds of wintry weather to the eastern half of the nation through the end of the work week. A trail of snow and ice will be found from southern Texas into the Carolinas.
A potent cold front crawled across the Eastern U.S. overnight Thursday, becoming situated over the Southeast and Gulf Coast. A low pressure center will begin to develop ahead of the front, which will allow for moisture to be drawn into the Southeast.
North of the developing low pressure, a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is moving across the Carolinas and will push toward the southern Delmarva tonight.
Ice Storm and Winter Storm Warnings stretch from northeastern South Carolina to southeastern Virginia, where ice accretions of up to 0.25 inches are possible, along with 4 to 6 inches of snow. Winter Weather Advisories extend from Georgia into eastern Maryland.
The coastal low and associated Arctic cold front will zip to the east and away from the U.S. on Saturday. Any lingering snow and freezing rain across the Carolinas will end by early in the morning, with drier weather moving in for the rest of the day.
