Southwestern and northeastern Texas and the eastern Carolinas are two areas seeing severe thunderstorms this evening. These storms are capable of containing damaging winds and large hail.
An elongated frontal system stretches from western Texas to the Carolina Coast and is producing pockets of showers and embedded thunderstorms along this entire corridor.
Strong thunderstorms, fed by daytime heating and humidity from the Gulf of Mexico, are pushing across both south-central Texas and central North Carolina. These storms will be capable of generating gusty winds and hail. A few of the bigger storms in Texas could produce large damaging hail the size of baseballs.
Storms producing very large hail are expected late into the evening and into the overnight across south-central Texas, so stay alert for dangerous weather even after heading to bed.
During severe weather season, it is important to stay up to date with the latest conditions through local television, weather radio, and/or alerts through a smartphone. If a warning is issued for your area, it means severe weather is imminent and it is important to take shelter as soon as you are able.
