The Easter bunny should have clear hopping for much of the U.S., but it will need to have some all-weather gear in reserve as it delivers its treats this weekend.
Saturday
The weekend kicks-off as a soggy mess for large stretches of the eastern U.S. A large storm system that brought stormy weather to the central U.S. to close out the work week will slide across the East early Saturday. The heaviest rain will fall before dawn, but showers with localized downpours will linger through the afternoon across the Northeast. The Mid-Atlantic and Southeast will begin to clear later in the day. Afternoon highs will be in the 70s throughout the East Coast, with 60s found across the Appalachians. Florida will be in the 80s.
A few rain showers will also move north from the Tennessee Valley into the Great Lakes Saturday afternoon. The showers and accompanying cloud cover will suppress temperatures, with highs only in the 50s from the Mid-South to the Great Lakes.
The central U.S. will have a sunny and pleasant Saturday. Highs will be in the 80s throughout the southern and central Plains, with 60s and 70s found throughout the northern Plains and Upper Midwest.
A few scattered rain showers will spread across the Northwest, Intermountain West and northern Rockies while the rest of the West, including California, the Great Basin, Southwest and the Mountain West, stays dry. Highs will be mild with highs in the 50s and 60s across the Northwest and Mountain West to 70s and 80s across California, the Southwest and southern Rockies. A few spots of the Desert Southwest will touch 90 degrees.
Sunday
Easter Sunday will be quieter than Saturday. The East Coast soaking will be offshore, but New England and parts of the Appalachians will see a few lingering and scattered rains showers for most of the day. Everywhere else from the Mississippi Valley to the Atlantic will be mostly sunny with temperatures ranging form the 50s in the Midwest, Great Lakes, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic to the 70s and 80s across the South and Southeast.
Texas and the southern Plains will be even warmer than its southern neighbors. Highs will climb into the 80s, with parts of western and southern Texas exceeding 90 degrees. The Northern and Central Plains will be colder with highs in the 60s and 70s. A few clouds and a scattered rain shower will be possible later Sunday.
A developing spring storm system will bring a few showers to the Rockies and Mountain West, with a few of the highest elevation points receiving a burst of snow. Highs will be in the 30s and 40s, so wet snow could fall at lower elevations too. Calm and clear weather will be found across the West Coast and Southwest. Temperatures will range from the 80s in the southern Rockies, Southwest and southern California to 60s and 70s across the Great Basin, Northwest and coastal California.
