Amid the current state of our country, fireworks seem far from reality this weekend. However, some major cities are still planning to burst the sky with an array of colors for the Fourth of July, but will the weather cooperate?
Well, if you’re located along the East Coast, the famous Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks in New York City have already begun this week. However, they have had to limit showtimes due to COVID-19 restrictions in fear of large crowds. They are still planning on shooting fireworks in the Big Apple promptly today, that is if the weather cooperates. A back door cold front may spell cloudy and rainy conditions across the Northeast, particularly across the Delaware Valley. Should showers and storms hold off, fireworks should still able to be viewed for the locals as well as for anybody watching on TV.
Elsewhere in the U.S., scattered chances for showers and thunderstorms are going to make fireworks difficult. This is especially true for the Deep South and Great Plains, thanks to stubborn fronts prompting potential storm development. Cities such as New Orleans and Kansas City, Mo., have the greatest chance to see wet weather ruin firework shows before and after sunset, which will be at 8:05 p.m. CDT this evening.
Alas, the best locations for fireworks will be located across the Great Lakes, West Coast and Great Basin thanks to multiple areas of high pressure. If you can bear the heat rising to the 90s and even triple digits across the West, then fireworks should be enjoyed safely while following the CDC guidance of remaining at least 6 feet apart while wearing a facemask.
Not to worry though, for anyone wanting to stay in the comfort of their homes this year instead of travelling out, there are plenty of TV outlets broadcasting fireworks this year. One of them being the Captiol Fourth fireworks concert where fireworks will be enjoyed at the Nation’s Capital at 8 p.m. EDT.
