Sorry, April 25th. Your time in the spotlight is officially over.

[Earlier this year, the WeatherBug team decided to fact-check](https://www.weatherbug.com/news/The-Perfect-Date-Confirmed) one of the internet’s most famous weather claims: that April 25th is the perfect date because it’s _not too hot, not too cold, and all you need is a light jacket._

Turns out, the data had other ideas.

We analyzed years of WeatherBug weather data from across the U.S. to determine which day actually comes closest to perfect light-jacket weather.

And now, the winner is just a few days away.

## What Makes a Weather Day Perfect?

Obviously, “perfect weather” is subjective. Some people would happily take a 90-degree beach day, while others start celebrating the second temperatures fall into the 50s.

We needed some ground rules.

For our analysis, we considered ideal light-jacket weather to be temperatures between **65° and 70°F with little to no rain or snow.**

In other words: mild temperatures and minimal precipitation.

Then we looked through years of WeatherBug data to see which dates came closest.

## April 25th Didn't Even Come Close

After years of memes and pop-culture fame, you'd expect April 25th to put up a respectable fight.

It didn't.

**April 25th ranked 80th.**

April can certainly deliver some beautiful weather, but it's also a notoriously changeable time of year. Spring storms and fluctuating temperatures didn't do the famous date any favors in our rankings.

So if April 25th isn't the perfect weather date, what is?

## October 8th Takes the Crown

**October 8th is WeatherBug's perfect weather date.**

Our analysis found an average temperature of about **66°F** and average precipitation of just **0.0573 inches**.

That's about as close as you can get to the light-jacket sweet spot we were looking for.

And honestly, October taking the crown makes a lot of sense.

For many parts of the country, the intense heat of summer is fading, humidity is dropping and colder winter weather hasn't arrived yet. It's that brief stretch of the year when opening the windows and spending the entire day outside suddenly sounds like a very good idea.

##

## October Deserves More Credit

October didn't just give us the winning date.

Our analysis found the month consistently delivered a combination of mild temperatures and relatively low precipitation, making it one of the strongest parts of the calendar for the type of weather we were looking for.

Compare that with July, when summer heat and thunderstorms pushed many dates much farther down the rankings.

Of course, that doesn't mean October 8th will have perfect weather everywhere every year, [you'll need to check your local forecast to find out](https://www.weatherbug.com/weather-forecast/now). This ranking is based on historical weather data across the U.S., not a promise that your backyard will be 66° and sunny this October 8th.

So, after months of waiting, we're finally approaching the day the data says deserves all the attention April 25th has been getting!
