Additional rainfall threatens the Mid-Atlantic coast this weekend thanks to a new system brewing over the Southeast. Flash flooding will be an issue for areas of poor drainage.
An upper-level system sweeping across the Mid-Atlantic today will provide copious amounts of rainfall. These regions can expect to see an additional 1 to 2 inches with isolated totals up to 4 inches in some spots. Cities under this threat include Richmond and Virginia Beach, Va., and Elizabeth City, N.C.
Flash Flood Watches are in effect for southeastern Virginia into northeastern North Carolina.
As the system progresses towards the north, areas along the Atlantic Coast will have to watch for heavy rain and thunderstorms through Sunday. This includes Atlantic City, N.J., and the New York City metro. This low pressure system will be capable of producing heavy rain pver long periods of time so it is important to staya vigilant should any flooding occur.
Make sure to avoid flooded roadways if you have to travel out in the heavy rain. It only takes a few inches of running water to render a vehicle dangerous to operate. Remember the phrase, “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” should you come across floodwaters.
