More than 100 people were killed after a landslide struck a jade mine in northern Myanmar on July 2.
This footage, recorded by David Zahkung, shows the landslide coming down a hill and into a crater, where lakewater is caused to surge upwards as a result. Miners digging at the water’s edge were caught by the wave, local reports said.
“The height of the wave was about 20 feet and it drowned many people. It was like a tsunami," U Tin Soe, a local parliamentary representative, was quoted as saying.
According to Myanmar’s Ministry of Information, 123 bodies were recovered
from the mine and the search was continuing.
