N. Plains, Upper Midwest Next In Line For Fresh Snow
February 28, 2021
UPDATED By WeatherBug's Chris Sayles
The weekend will conclude with a band of moderate snowfall across parts of the north-central U.S.
Leftover energy from the system that swept through the Intermountain West will make its way across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest today. With the help of a cold air mass in the north, fresh snow will coat South Dakota and northern Nebraska into the Upper Midwest. Anywhere between 2 to 5 inches will be possible, with locally higher amounts of 6 to 8 inches found in heavier bands from Minneapolis to northern Wisconsin and the U.P. of Michigan.
Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warning have been issued for northern Nebraska, southern South Dakota, southern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, and the western U.P of Michigan.
Minneapolis-Twin Cities metro will see snow amounts range between 3 to 6 inches through this morning. However, there’s a chance for rain and sleet to mix with the snow, making roads slushier.
If possible, remain off the roads until the storm has passed. Otherwise, expect difficulties when travelling and allot extra time to reach your destination during this storm as roadways will be slick from near to below-freezing temperatures.
Remember to check local road conditions and be sure to carry a winter driving safety kit that includes tire chains, extra food and water, blankets, snow shovels and traction material.
