[00:08] I'm talking about flooding, especially flooding at night. [00:10] It can be just as dangerous as a nighttime tornado, and in some circumstances, it can even be worse. [00:16] Over the weekend, we saw exactly why. Massive amounts of rain fell across parts of the southwest. [00:22] This then triggered dangerous flash flooding in Arizona and in Colorado. [00:26] And it wasn't just the southwest. Across Florida, relentless downpours triggered dangerous flash flooding, especially along the state's Atlantic coast. Near Palm Beach, reports indicated an incredible 17 inches of rain fell in just six hours. In Sedona, Arizona, rising floodwaters along Oak Creek left people stranded, with rescue crews having to use aircraft to help reach the residents that were trapped by the water. And in Colorado, the San Juan River rose so rapidly that officials ordered evacuations as the community faced the threat of the [00:56] potentially historic flooding. [00:58] But here's what makes flooding so dangerous. [01:00] Unlike a tornado, [01:01] you don't always see something dramatic [01:03] coming across the horizon. [01:04] And sometimes the worst flooding actually happens [01:06] miles away from where the heaviest rain fell. [01:09] And at night, that danger gets even worse. [01:11] You might not be able to see that a road is underwater, [01:14] how deep that water is, [01:16] or whether the pavement underneath that rushing water [01:19] has already been washed away. [01:21] And it doesn't take much moving water [01:22] to create a life-threatening situation. [01:24] just six inches of fast moving water cannot gonna dull off their feet. [01:28] And about a foot of moving water can carry away most vehicles. [01:32] And that's why I always tell people, [01:34] never drive through a flooded roadway ever. [01:37] Even if you know the road, even if you've driven it a thousand times, [01:41] even if the water doesn't look that deep, [01:43] because the biggest danger isn't always the storm [01:45] that you can see coming.
