-URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Juneau AK 321 AM AKST Sun Dec 21 2025 City and Borough of Juneau- Including the city of Juneau 321 AM AKST Sun Dec 21 2025 ...EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON AKST MONDAY... ...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM AKST MONDAY... * WHAT...For the High Wind Warning, northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 75 mph. For the Extreme Cold Warning, extremely cold wind chills as low as 25 below expected. * WHERE...City and Borough of Juneau. * WHEN...For the High Wind Warning, until 9 AM AKST Monday. For the Extreme Cold Warning, until noon AKST Monday. * IMPACTS...High winds will blow around unsecured objects and may damage property and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult. Frostbite and hypothermia are likely if exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Conditions set up for a strong Taku Wind event to occur this weekend. Confidence has continued with peak wind gusts of 65 to 75 mph, potentially higher. The strongest of these wind gusts will occur late Sunday morning into Sunday evening, before diminishing into Monday. Expected fluctuations in wind speeds still remain, with lower winds during the overnight hours Saturday into Sunday and late Sunday into Monday. Cold wind chills approach warning criteria through the weekend. Locations affected by Taku winds will not have as cold of temperatures, but will also approach warning criteria due to the stronger winds. The coldest temperatures and wind chills will be late Sunday night into Monday morning. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... People are urged to secure vessels and loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind. Report any damage to the National Weather Service by visiting weather.gov/Juneau/StormReports Wear protective clothing such as a hat, facemask and heavy gloves or mittens if you have plans to be outdoors. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in- ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing. &&
