Discussion

Pollen concentrations for Monday will be rising and extend even further into the extremely high range. Since the weather has a major influence on pollen dispersal, this increase is due in part to strong winds and decreasing humidity. This heavy increase in pollen concentration could very well cause problems for those who are allergic to airborne pollens.

Allergy Facts

The medical community has traditionally thought that asthma attacks are typically not caused directly by exposure to pollen alone, since particles needs to be small enough to actually enter the lungs in order to bring on symptoms, and pollen tends to be just over the threshhold in size to meet this requirement. Pollen is usually viewed as an aggravation to asthmatics. A recent study proved that grass pollen commonly becomes fragmented under certain weather conditions, breaking down into small enough sizes to be inhaled deep into the lungs, becoming a direct cause of asthmatic attacks.
