An autumn chill continues to spread its wings, settling across the South and eventually into the East over the next several days.
The first round of the autumn chill blew through parts of the Northwest and Rockies early Sunday with afternoon highs only reaching the 50s and lower 60s, about 10 to 15 degrees below average for this time of year. This morning is also a chilly start as many areas are starting out in the 30s and 40s across the central U.S.
Frost Advisories are posted for the coldest locations across parts of the central and High Plains from northwest Texas up through south-central Nebraska where overnight lows are expected to drop into the 30s.
The cold front associated with this cold air has since pushed eastward over the Appalachians and will continue to do so today. It has already pushed through the Plains, Mississippi Valley and Midwest, bringing with it showers and cooler temperatures. High temperartures will be 10 to 15 degrees below average across much of the Central U.S. today with Wednesday morning lows dipping into the upper 30s and 40s for the Plains, Mississippi Valley, Midwest, and parts of the Northeast tomorrow morning.
If you think this is cool, just wait until later this week. Even chillier daytime highs in the upper 40s and 50s will set up shop across the Upper Midwest and Northern Tier, with some areas getting frost from even cooler temperatures. Not to be outdone, the Great Lakes may see their first snowflakes of the season as the front sweeps the early October chill into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Parts of the interior Mid-Atlantic will also likely see the first frost of the season by the end of next weekend.
