Great Lakes & Midwest Under Severe Threat
June 22, 2024 at 09:45 PM EDT
By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Dan Rupp

The Midwest and Great Lakes are under a severe weather threat tonight.
A low pressure system will bring a severe weather risk this evening.
A Tornado Watch is in place across southern Wisconsin. This includes Madison, Wis.
Thunderstorms will potentially drop several inches of rain through the evening over the Midwest and Great Lakes, which could cause flash flooding. Flash Flood Warnings and Watches are in effect for parts of the region. In addition, damaging winds, large hail and even a tornado risk is on the table for the evening. Thunderstorms will eventually progress southward into Missouri and Illinois this evening before weakening around midnight.
There is also a small chance for stronger storms in the Mid-Atlantic, the Utah-Colorado border, and North Dakota today, with high wind gusts being the major threat.
The best way to remain safe is to stay prepared and informed about your local weather. Have a severe weather kit packed with a battery-operated radio, water and non-perishable food items should you be without power for long periods of time. Also, check the WeatherBug app frequently for any updates on today's severe weather. Remember, “When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!”
