Today's forecast winds
Gusty conditions are slated for the northern and central Plains today.

A low pressure system will track across the north-central U.S. towards the Upper Great Lakes today allowing chilly, gusty air to push in behind it.

There are currently High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories in place across much of the Dakotas, southern Minnesota, northern Iowa, eastern Montana and portions of the Rocky Mountain Front from Wyoming to New Mexico.

The event will be short-lived, but significant as sustained winds may reach 30 to 45 mph with gusts around 60 mph from the morning to the evening hours today. Winds will be powerful enough to potentially cause power outages and damage to roofs. For those that wander outside, it will be important to watch out for flying debris.

The best way to remain safe is to stay prepared and informed about your local weather. Have a severe weather kit packed with a battery-operated radio, water and non-perishable food items should you be without power for long periods of time.
