Heavy Rain Continues Across Eastern Carolinas

Heavy rain is expected once again today across southeastern North Carolina into eastern South Carolina, and this will lead to more flooding concerns. 

A stalled front combined with plentiful moisture in this region will cause pockets of heavier rain from showers and thunderstorms in southeastern North Carolina into eastern South Carolina today. Best coverage of thunderstorms will be during this afternoon and evening. Flooding will be a concern thanks to slow-moving downpours coupled with saturated soils. As a result, urban flooding and flooding of local streams, creeks and rivers are possible. This will likely lead to travel delays in this part of the country. 

Additional rain amounts of 1 to 3 inches is likely in these areas, with locally higher amounts possible in thunderstorms that move slowly. 

Flood Watches are in effect across parts of eastern North Carolina and eastern South Carolina. Cities and areas under the watches include the Outer Banks and Wilmington, N.C. and Myrtle Beach, S.C. 

Remember if a roadway is flooded, "Turn Around, Don't Drown!". This will likely lead to travel delays across this region of the country. Flooding is a leading cause of weather-related fatalities with more than half of flood-related casualties occurring in automobiles when attempting to cross high water. Just six inches of fast-flowing water can sweep a grown adult away while twelve inches can overtake small cars. It is never safe to drive or walk through flooded roadways.
