Following your favorite baseball team can be a fun summertime activity but the heat can make it more unbearable than enjoyable.

Here are a few things to keep in mind to stay cool at the ball park.

Light-weight clothing is the optimal choice to keep cool. Cotton is the best natural fiber because it`s porous, allowing air to circulate around your skin. If you perspire easily, try a t-shirt made of polyester or a polyester/cotton combination. Moisture will get wicked away from your body, keeping you cooler longer.

Lighter colored clothing will reflect sunshine and heat from your body, keeping you cooler. Pastel colors such as turquoise, lavender, salmon pink, baby blue and jade green are other colors that will also do the trick.

Protect your face from the sun by wearing a ball cap, maybe even one with your favorite team`s name on it. The average baseball game can last up to 3 hours, so you will want to apply sunscreen to avoid getting burned. Sunscreen products with an SPF of 15 or greater are recommended.

Wearing open-toed shoes allows air to circulate around your feet, keeping them cooler. Flip-flops are a good alternative, although they don`t provide the best support for your feet. Wearing shoes and socks could make your feet sweat.

Other ways to stay cool while at the baseball game include drinking plenty of water and eating fruit. Fruit contains up to 95 percent water and will help you stay hydrated. Alcohol, soda and coffee do the opposite and make you dehydrate.
