Today's High Temperature Outlook
Sizzling summer heat will bake the interior Northwest over the next few days.

A strong high pressure system will produce dry weather across portions of northern Oregon into Washington, northern Idaho, and northwestern Montana. As it does so, temperatures across the region will reach dangerous levels. Cities such as Pendleton, Ore., Spokane, Wash., and Coeur D'Alene, Idaho will feel the impact of the hot conditions.

Extreme Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories can be found across northern Oregon, central and eastern Washington, northern Idaho, and northwestern Montana. High temperatures today will likely peak in the upper 90s and lower 100s in these areas.

A few record high temperatures will be challenged across the region today. This includes the record of 98 degrees set in 1988 for Spokane, Wash. The record of 100 degrees set in 1988 will also be challenged in Yakima, Wash.

The hot weather will continue into Thursday. Afternoon high temperatures will once again reach the upper 90s to lower 100s. Some of these temperatures will challenge previous daily record highs, including the record of 98 degrees in Yakima, Wash. and 96 degrees in Spokane, Wash. Both of the previous records were set in 1988.

With plenty of heat around, dry conditions will lead to an increased risk for wildfires throughout the interior Northwest over the next few days. Smoke and haze from wildfires can lead to deteriorating air quality throughout the region.

If you must go outdoors, prepare by staying hydrated and keep a watchful eye for any signs of heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Wear the right clothing, such as loose-fitting, lightweight and breathable fabrics, and take many breaks within a cool and shaded area.

Make sure to take extra precautions for children and the elderly as they are more susceptible to heat-related illness. Never leave children or animals alone in a locked vehicle as it can become dangerous and potentially fatal.
