Today's Forecast High Temperatures
Intense heat will persist throughout much of the central and southern U.S. today.

High pressure locking in over the Gulf will pump plenty of hot, humid air into the Southern Tier this week. Along with abundant sunshine, afternoon temperatures will climb into the middle to upper 90s. When combined with dew point values in the middle to upper 70s, it will feel more like it's in the 100s, with heat indices as high as 112 degrees possible!

The high heat and humidity will spread across the Midwest and Ohio Valley today ahead of an advancing cold front. Temperatures will peak in the lower 90s and, when combined with dew points reaching into the 70s, it will feel like it's in the upper 90s and lower 100s!

As such, Heat Advisories are found stretching from eastern Texas to western Alabama northward into southern Minnesota, southern and central Wisconsin, southern Lower Michigan, Ohio, and southwestern West Virginia. Cities such as Shreveport, La., Kansas City, Mo., Des Moines, Iowa, Minneapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Detroit, Cincinnati, Louisville, Ky., and Nashville, Tenn. are under these advisories.

Extreme Heat Warnings are also in effect across portions of eastern Louisiana, Mississippi, central and eastern Arkansas, western Tennessee, southeastern Missouri, western Kentucky, and southern Illinois. This includes cities such as New Orleans, Little Rock, Ark., Memphis, Tenn., and St. Louis.

Additional Heat Advisories can be found across portions of western New York, Massachusetts, northern Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

If you must go outdoors, prepare by staying hydrated and keep a watchful eye for any signs of heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Wear the right clothing, such as loose-fitting, lightweight and breathable fabrics, and take many breaks within a cool and shaded area.

Make sure to take extra precautions for children and the elderly as they are more susceptible to heat-related illness. Never leave children or animals alone in a locked vehicle as it can become dangerous and potentially fatal.
