Late Season Chill Settles Over Central, Eastern U.S.
May 11, 2021
UPDATED by WeatherBug Meteorologists
Another late-season chill has settled across much of the country. Snow is flying in the Rockies, while frost threatens the spring growing season in the Great Lakes.
Winter Storm Warnings are in place for the Foothills west of Denver and Fort Collins, Colo., as well as in the Cheyenne to Laramie, Wyo. area. Snow amounts of 5-10 inches are likely.
Even in the lower elevations of Denver, light snow or a rain/snow mix is likely this morning, but any accumulation would be less than an inch at most.
Meanwhile, frost and freeze warnings were in effect from the Upper Midwest into the Great Lakes and Northeast this morning.
Near-freezing morning temperatures threatened the spring growing season anywhere from northeastern Nebraska to Michigan to New York state. Additional frost and freeze warnings are likely again on Wednesday morning.
The cold Canadian high pressure system responsible for the unseasonable chill will remain in place through much of the rest of the week, though temperatures will slowly moderate.
Even so, high temperatures will remain 5-10 degrees or more below normal through Friday before a mor springlike pattern takes hold.
