Mother Nature isn't quite finished yet, as strong to severe storms are raging through the Midwest and Northeast tonight. The biggest threats still remain to be damaging winds and hail.
A disturbance moving through the Midwest is helping to generate enough lift for storms to form and organize from Indiana to Pennsylvania. Earlier today plenty of areas from the central Plains to the Mississippi Valley received torrential rains and gusty winds. Even after the sun has set, more severe weather will flare into the overnight.
Areas closest to the core of the disturbance have the best chance of seeing severe storms, which includes southern Michigan, central Indiana and northwestern Ohio. Cleveland and Detroit are still within the bullseye to see strong to severe storms tonight.
A plethora of storms reports cover the Midwest into the Northeast today. Quarter-sized hail fell in eastern Illinois, northern and eastern Ohio, and southern New York. Not to mention the abundant reports of downed trees in central New York, Pennsylvania, and northern Ohio.
Keep in mind that lightning is one of Mother Nature's most dangerous killers. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to the storm to be struck by lightning, even if the sun is shining.
Don’t drive through any flooded roadways if you encounter high water. Remember to ‘Turn Around, Don’t Drown.’ It could save your life.
