Today's Severe Weather Outlook
Dangerous weather is peppering the eastern Mississippi Valley to the Lower Great Lakes tonight. Every severe hazard

A cold front dividing unseasonably warm, humid air from much cooler, drier air will foster individual and lines of powerful thunderstorms from southern Wisconsin to southeastern Missouri and far northeastern Arkansas for the next several hours tonight.

Tornado Watches are in effect from northwestern Illinois to southern Wisconsin. Quincy and Rockford, Ill., and Madison, Wis., are included.

Large hail up to golf ball size and damaging wind gusts up to 65 mph will be possible, as will a tornado or two. Milwaukee to Chicago, St. Louis, and Aurora, Ill., will need to keep a watchful eye to the sky for big thunderstorms tonight.

So far today, there have been 110 severe weather reports from Kansas and Nebraska to Iowa, Missouri, and Arkansas. A possible tornado was reported near Smithville, Mo., where mobile homes were flipped over earlier this morning. An EF-0 tornado was confirmed north of Athol, Kan., early this afternoon. Meanwhile, golf ball size hail pelted Jonesburg and Kirksville, Mo., while a 65 mph thunderstorm gust was clocked near Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Make sure to know the difference between a watch and a warning should they become issued. A watch means that conditions are favorable for severe weather to occur and to be on alert for any rapidly changing conditions. A warning means that severe weather is imminent, and you should act fast to remain safe.

Be sure to keep up with the latest watches and warnings on the WeatherBug website and our WeatherBug app. Also, it would be smart to have a severe weather plan in place in case severe weather strikes your area.
