August 28, 2024 at 09:50 PM EDT
By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Molly Robinson

Severe thunderstorms continue across the northern Plains, bringing damaging winds and hail to the Dakotas.
A cold front moving into the Dakotas, feeding off strong instability in place. A Tornado Watch remains in place for eastern and central North and South Dakota, including Bismarck, N.D., and Pierre, S.D.
The biggest threat remains large hail to the size of baseballs, with wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph possible as well. The threat is significant enough that the national Storm Prediction Center considers it an Enhanced Risk for severe thunderstorms.
Make sure to frequently check WeatherBug for updates, as a watch can quickly turn into a warning upon imminent danger. It is important to stay prepared for active weather. Make sure you know the difference between a watch and a warning should they become issued. A watch means that conditions are favorable for severe weather to take place, whereas a warning means severe weather is imminent and you need to act fast to prevent damage to property or even loss of life. Remember, “When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!”
