Sizzling Heat Continues Across the Northwest
September 4, 2025 at 11:26 PM EDT
By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Rob Miller

Another day of scorching heat is expected throughout the interior Northwest today.
High temperatures throughout the region on Wednesday peaked in the upper 90s across much of northern Oregon into central and eastern Washington and northern Idaho. Spokane, Wash. tied their record high when the temperature reached 98 degrees. Meanwhile, Yakima, Wash. fell shy of their record when the temperature peaked at 99 degrees.
With high pressure remaining entrenched across the interior Northwest for today, another sizzling afternoon is expected. High temperatures will once again peak in the upper 90s for many but may even exceed 100 degrees in a few locations.
However, only a few places will challenge their record high temperatures for today. This includes Yakima, Wash. where the record of 98 degrees from 1988 will be challenged. Lewiston, Idaho will approach the record of 101 set in 2020.
With plenty of heat around, dry conditions will lead to an increased risk for wildfires throughout the interior Northwest over the next few days. Smoke and haze from wildfires can lead to deteriorating air quality throughout the region.
If you must go outdoors, prepare by staying hydrated and keep a watchful eye for any signs of heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Wear the right clothing, such as loose-fitting, lightweight and breathable fabrics, and take many breaks within a cool and shaded area.
Make sure to take extra precautions for children and the elderly as they are more susceptible to heat-related illness. Never leave children or animals alone in a locked vehicle as it can become dangerous and potentially fatal.
