Southeast Impacted By Heavy Rain
March 28, 2024 at 05:28 AM EDT
Updated By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Rob Richards
An area of low pressure will ride along a slow-moving cold front across the Southeast today into this evening causing rounds of moderate to heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms which could lead to localized flooding and flash flooding concerns.
Rain will be moderate to heavy at times across the eastern Carolinas and southeastern Virginia through early this afternoon. The rain should exit northern Florida and southern Georgia by later this morning. The rain will end across the Carolinas by later this afternoon, then end by early evening in southeastern Virginia.
Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches will occur in northern Florida up into southeastern Virginia. Locally higher amounts of 4 to 5 inches are possible in the eastern Carolinas, where the low pressure system could slow down a bit prolonging the rainfall.
Cities impacted by the rainfall include Valdosta and Savannah, Ga., Columbia and Myrtle Beach, S.C., Raleigh and Wilmington, N.C. and Norfolk, Va. There will be the risk for localized flooding and flash flooding for all of these locations.
Flood Watches have been issued for portions of eastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia.
Remember, “Turn Around, Don’t Drown!” if you approach a flooded roadway and stay tuned to the WeatherBug app, website, and social media over the coming days for updates on this event.
