Today's Forecast High Temperatures
Heat and humidity refuse to let up from the Plains to the East Coast this weekend.

A stout ridge of high pressure over the southern half of the U.S. will keep air conditioners cranking across a wide swath of the country today and Sunday. High temperatures of 10 to 20 degrees above average for late July are expected in some areas.

Temperatures will rise into the 90s and 100s across much of the U.S., with areas in the Mojave Desert in California and parts of the southern Plains seeing the mercury hit the 110s.

With high humidity also expected, heat indices will climb to as high as 100 to 110 degrees for the southern and central Plains and stretching into the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.

Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Warnings are found across parts of the central Plains, Mississippi Valley, Desert Southwest, eastern Mid-Atlantic, and the Northeast U.S.

While the pool and beach may be appealing during this type of weather, be sure to take caution and check in on yourself and others while outside. If you cannot avoid being outdoors, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, take breaks often and wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. This type of heat may lead to life-threatening heat-related illnesses like heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Please remember to check on those who are considered at a higher risk for heat-related illnesses, such as the elderly, children, and pets. Dogs and cats do not sweat the same as us and are prone to heat illness quickly in very hot temperatures. Make sure to increase the intake of water and check the backseat before locking and leaving your vehicle. Never leave a child or pet in a hot car, even if for a few minutes.
