The 2023 Masters Tournament will take place from April 6 to April 9.

Taking place every year at the Augusta National Golf Club, the Masters tournament has been an annual staple since 1934. Co-founded by Bobby Jones, the legendary amateur champion and Clifford Roberts, a Wall Street investment banker, the tournament has grown in prestige over the years.

The first Masters tournament was won by Horton Smith, who shot four under par to win by two strokes. The early years of the Masters were dominated by American golfers. In the 1960s and 1970s, the Masters began to attract more international players, including Arnold Palmer, the first non-American to win the Masters (in 1960) and Gary Player, who won in 1961, 1974 and 1978. The most successful golfer in Masters history is Jack Nicklaus, a six-time champion.

There are several notable players competing in this year’s Masters tournament, including Scottie Scheffler (2022 champion), Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth and Jason Day. Currently, Scottie Scheffler (5-1), Rory McIlroy (7-1) and Jon Rahm (9-1) are the favorites to win the 2023 Masters, according to Caesars Sportsbook.

The tournament started with tranquil weather on Thursday. However, showers and thunderstorms passed over the golf course throughout the day on Friday, causing play to become suspended. Strong winds caused a few trees to topple on the golf course, but thankfully no one was injured.

Saturday's weather wasn't an improvement. Rounds of rain passed over the course during the day, making golf conditions difficult alongside high temperatures that are quite chilly for this time of year, near 50 degrees. As a result, play was suspended on Saturday afternoon.

The weather will finally improve for Sunday as high pressure begins to build across the Southeast U.S. Plenty of sunshine will return, along with more seasonable afternoon temperatures in the 60s. Should the weather delays cause the tournament to expand into Monday, it will remain dry with high temperatures approaching 70 degrees.
