The 66th annual Daytona 500, or ‘The Great American Race’, was supposed to begin today at 2:30pm EST, in Daytona Beach, Fla. However due to excessive rainfall, it has been scheduled to Monday, February 19th at 4 p.m. EST.

Previously, there had been 26 races in delays on years past, but only two were completely postponed. Since NASCAR decided to postpone to Monday (President’s Day), the weather will be much more favorable with most rain activity ending sometime during the morning hours.

Extreme Weather Races

-The wettest race was in 2014 with 0.98 inches of rain, a close second was in 2021 with 0.95 inches.

-The hottest Daytona 500 was in 1975 with a high temperature of 85 degrees.

-The coldest race was in 1967 with a temperature only reaching 48 degrees.
