Iceland’s capital city, Reykjavik, woke to 51 cm (20 inches) of snow cover on Sunday, February 26; the most accumulated snow ever recorded in the city for the month of February.

All roads out of the city were closed due to the snowfall, and while some were digging out cars and porches, videos and photos on social media showed many enjoying the benefits of the winter weather.

The greatest amount of snow cover ever recorded in the Icelandic capital was 55 cm (21 inches) in January 1937.
