Heavy rain and subsequent flooding forced the closure of several roads and collapsed bridges in northeastern Scotland on Saturday, September 28, local media reported.
Aberdeenshire Council tweeted images on Saturday of Banff bridge, which was closed due to flooding. Police Scotland shared an image of a missing stretch of roadway and warned drivers of “heavily flooded” roads.
Officials told local media on Sunday that most main roads were re-opened, but several smaller roads were still closed and “likely to be closed for some time.” Officials were sent out to inspect bridges in the area for damage.
“Fortunately no one was found to be at risk, despite a huge volume of water flowing through a normally small stream,” a Coastguard spokesman told local media.
