On Tuesday, a large tornado reportedly touched down in Tembisa, Gauteng, which is 45 miles northeast of the city of Johannesburg. Although tornadoes in South Africa are not unheard of, it is currently winter in the Southern Hemisphere and tornadoes are more likely to occur in the warmer spring and summer months.
