Wet, wintry weather plagues most of the nation this weekend as a low pressure moves off the East Coast, while another round of moisture surges onto the West Coast.

Saturday

In the Northeast, snowfall continues to fall atop New England as snow will continue to accumulate throughout the day on Saturday. Unfortunately for the Mid-Atlantic and New England coastlines will not get picturesque snowfall, as temperatures will be too high. Cold rain will fall in these areas down through the South.

Cold rain in the Southeast continues Saturday as low pressure makes its way offshore. Rainfall and a line of thunderstorms will track across the Deep South through Georgia and South Carolina, bringing locally heavy rain and gusty winds in its path. Deep South areas, such as the Rio Grande Valley and Florida’s Peninsula, will be too far south and look to be dry throughout the day on Saturday.

Snow and rain will also be present in the Midwest as moisture travels across the area. The Great Lakes region and Central Plains will see some rain/snow mix, but temperatures will be high enough that snow accumulation is not expected. The Northern Plains, however, will be mostly dry throughout Saturday.

Very early morning mountain snow and valley rain is expected in the Mountain West on Saturday, but high pressure settling into the area will dry out the area by midday.

Also, wet and wintry this Saturday will be the Pacific Northwest down through to Sierra Nevada. Mountain rain and valley rain/snow mix will occur throughout the Pacific Northwest. The Cascades and Sierra Nevada will receive highly anticipated snowfall, but a rain/snow mix has potential to bring snowflakes to the valleys, with a high likelihood that nothing will accumulate on the ground.

The Desert Southwest will remain dry throughout the day on Saturday, with weekend outdoor plans remaining clear, unlike last weekend.

Bone-chilling single digit and teen high temperatures return to the U.S.-Canada border in North Dakota this Saturday. Below freezing temperatures will also chill Maine, the northern Plains, and the foothills of the Rockies, Cascades, and Sierra Nevada.

Slightly higher temperatures in the 30s will be a trend this Saturday for the remainder of New England, the Great Lakes region, the Central Plains, valleys throughout the Rockies, and lowland areas within the Great Basin Desert.

Temperatures in the 40s are in store for the Mid-Atlantic, Canaan Valley, Southern Plains, and Pacific Northwest. Areas in the 50s will be the northern Mid-Atlantic, Tennessee Valley, northern Texas and Oklahoma, the Desert Southwest, and California’s Central Valley.

The Southeast and northern portions of Deep South states will see 60s, while the southeastern Atlantic Coast and central Gulf Coast will see 70s. Heating up will be southern Florida and the Rio Grande Valley, which will reach temperatures well into the 80s.

Sunday

A continuation of similar conditions from Saturday will occur on Sunday, bringing snow to the Northeast. The morning will begin with coastal regions and Pennsylvania seeing a cold rain, but colder air will move in by midday, topping the northern Mid-Atlantic up throughout the entire Northeast with snowfall.

In the Southeast, rain will continue throughout the day on Sunday, with chances for isolated thunderstorms and bouts of heavy rain moving into northern Florida by midday. The Deep South should clear up from the rain by midday, with rain moving completely offshore late into the evening hours.

Midwestern moisture will continue Sunday, moving over the Great Lakes region into the Ohio River Valley. A rain/snow mix can be expected throughout the area. The rest of the Midwest will enjoy dry weather to close out the weekend.

In the Mountain West, high pressure surely has settled in, unpacking its suitcase and offering a dry closeout to the weekend. Conditions are expected to be dry throughout the day on Sunday for the entire Mountain West.

The Desert Southwest will also have a dry end to the weekend, escaping the moisture that remains northward along most of the West Coast.

West Coast moisture will continue to drench valleys and top the Cascades and Sierra Nevada with snow on Sunday. A continued trend of conditions will occur on Sunday as they did Saturday, with a rain/snow mix impacting the valleys from Washington down through California’s Central Valley. Snowflakes are possible to be seen in the air, but it is unlikely that there will be accumulation from this mix.

Below freezing temperatures will continue in the northern Plains, northern Rockies, and northern Great Lakes this Sunday, with single-digit and teen temperatures along the U.S.-Canada border in North Dakota and 20s elsewhere.

Thirties are in store for a large chunk of the country, such as the Northeast, Ohio River Valley, Central Plains, valleys in the Rockies, and Great Basin Desert. Temperatures in the 40s will prevail in the northern Mid-Atlantic, Tennessee Valley, southern Plains, and the Pacific Northwest this Sunday.

Areas seeing 50s this Sunday will be the northern portion of Southeastern and Deep South states and California’s Central Valley. Sixties can be expected for most of the Gulf Coast and the Desert Southwest.

The Rio Grande Valley and central Florida will be in the 70s this Sunday, with southern Florida reaching well into the 80s.
