Stinging cold will hang on today in the Northeast in the wake of an arctic cold front.
Temperatures plummeted in the wake of yesterday's arctic cold front, and now bone chilling cold and bitter winds will prevail for much of today.
High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories remain in effect from northeastern Pennsylvania all the way up through the Northeast and New England to coastal Maine. This includes New York City and Boston, as well as Albany, N.Y., and Hartford, Conn., to name a few. Wind gusts of 40-50 mph will be likely in all these areas.
The mercury nose-dived last night, and this morning, temperatures are well below zero over northern New York State into northern Maine. Elsewhere, residents are waking up to temperatures in the single digits to teens above zero. Wind Chill Warnings and Wind Chill Advisories are in effect this morning, and combined impacts from both the cold and the wind could make it feel more like 20 to 40 below zero morning in the coldest spots.
Low temperatures this morning will even be in the 20s as far south as Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York City, with wind chills in the single digits and teens above zero. Today's highs will only be in the teens and low 20 across Maine and the Green, White and Adirondack mountains of the interior Northeast. Boston will climb into the upper 20s and low 30s while New York hit the mid 30s.
Daily temperatures will moderate Wednesday through the end of the week, though in general will remain colder than normal through the period.
