Winter Weather Advisory
-URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Des Moines IA 814 PM CST Tue Dec 9 2025 ...STRONG WINDS RESULTING IN BLOWING SNOW TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING... .Very strong winds will develop over much of Iowa later tonight and into Wednesday morning. Wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected. Strong winds will interact with snowpack on the ground, leading to blowing and drifting of snow. While warm temperatures and rain have worked to solidify the snow pack today, winds of this strength may still be able to erode the outer crust, making travel hazardous. Similarly, scattered snow showers in conjunction with the strong winds may lead to brief visibility reductions overnight and into early Wednesday morning.
