-# HEADLINE -------------------- RED FLAG WARNING THROUGH 8 PM MDT THIS EVENING EAST OF THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN DUE TO STRONG WIND AND LOW HUMIDITY RED FLAG WARNING ON SUNDAY FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM MDT IN ZONES ALONG AND EAST OF I-25, AND ALSO OVER WEST CENTRAL ZONES, DUE TO STRONG WIND AND LOW HUMIDITY RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM MDT SUNDAY # SUMMARY -------------------- .With multiple fires ongoing across eastern New Mexico today, southwest winds will gust up to 35 mph today while humidity plummets between 10 and 15 percent. On Sunday, southwest and westerly wind gusts will peak from 50 to around 60 mph over a larger portion of the area with continued very low humidity. In addition, lightning activity across northern New mexico on Sunday will occur with little wetting precipitation, increasing the chances for new fire ignitions. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Red Flag Warning...which is in effect from 11 AM to 8 PM MDT Sunday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. # DETAILS -------------------- AREA AND TIMING Rio Grande Valley (Zone 106), Sandia and Manzano Mountains (Zone 124), West Central Mountains, Basin, and Range (Zones 105 and 109) Sunday from noon to 8 PM MDT. 20 FOOT WINDS Southwest to west at 25 to 40 mph with gusts of 50 to 60 mph. The strongest gusts will be over the mountains. RELATIVE HUMIDITY Minimum values of 10 to 15 percent, except up to 20 percent along the continental divide, and over 20 percent in the Chuska Mountains. IMPACTS Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
