URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Fairbanks AK 708 PM AKST Thu Jan 15 2026 Tanana Flats-Eielson AFB and Salcha-Fairbanks Metro Area-Nenana- Including the cities of Ester, Eielson AFB, the Richardson Highway from MP 317 to MP 346, Birch Lake, Fort Wainwright, Nenana, the Parks Highway from MP 290 to 325, North Pole, Harding Lake, Fairbanks, Fox, the Richardson Highway from MP 295 to MP 317, Moose Creek, and Salcha 708 PM AKST Thu Jan 15 2026 ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM AKST FRIDAY... * WHAT...Periods of blizzard conditions possible. Total snow accumulations between 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations around a light glaze possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Eielson AFB and Salcha, Fairbanks Metro Area, Nenana, and Tanana Flats. * WHEN...Until 9 PM AKST Friday. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes. Isolated power outages are possible and there could be minor tree damage as a result of the wind. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Light freezing rain or freezing drizzle is possible from Friday morning into Friday afternoon. This will not be a major ice storm, but even a trace to a few hundredths of an inch of ice can result in treacherous travel conditions.
