-# HEADLINE -------------------- RED FLAG WARNING FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM MDT SUNDAY FOR MOST OF NM (EXCEPT THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS AND NORTHWEST PLATEAU) DUE TO STRONG WIND AND LOW HUMIDITY RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM MDT SUNDAY # SUMMARY -------------------- .Southwesterly wind gusts of 45 to 60 mph over a large portion of the area with very low humidity and dry vegetation will create widespread critical fire weather. Localized extremely critical conditions will occur across parts of eastern New Mexico. In addition, lightning activity across northern New Mexico on Sunday will occur with little wetting precipitation, increasing the chances for new fire ignitions. # DETAILS -------------------- AREA AND TIMING Rio Grande Valley (Zone 106), Sandia and Manzano Mountains (Zone 124), West Central Mountains, Basin, and Range (Zones 105 and 109) Sunday from 11 AM to 8 PM MDT. 20 FOOT WINDS Southwest to west 25 to 40 mph with gusts of 45 to 60 mph. The strongest gusts will be over the mountains. RELATIVE HUMIDITY Minimum values 10 to 15 percent, except 15 to 20 percent over the higher terrain of western NM. IMPACTS Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
