The cause for the falling pollen levels is falling temperatures, rising humidity, and expected precipitation in the morning, afternoon and evening which tends to wash pollen out of the air. A recent Swedish study considered how much birch and grass pollen was inside street-level shops, and how well it could be removed through the use of air purifiers. They found that substantial amounts of pollen existed indoors, but that air purification could reduce the pollen exposure by approximately 27%.
