Don’t forget about Fido and the rest of the crew when winter weather threatens! Here we’ll discuss what are some things you can do to prepare your best friends.
Did you know that cattle are that much more at-risk when it comes to dangerous winter storms? If you live on a farm, simply have a plan in place to move the larger animals to a sheltered location. Shelter belts are preferred since they are safer than sheds, barns or even a house. Wherever you decide to stash your friendly animals, make sure it is warm and last through the duration of the storm.
Make sure to pack and prepare extra food for your barnyard animals well ahead of the storm to prevent any delays to feeding time. Some stores may experience shortages ahead of inclement weather, so it is best to call ahead and stay up to date on supplies. Don’t forget about clean drinkable water either! During winter storms, animals are more susceptible of dying from dehydration.
Similar rules apply to common and uncommon household pets. Make sure dogs, cats and even guineas pigs have a comfortable place to hunker down in prior to a storm bombarding your home. Replenish food and water supplies for them and monitor the forecast to see how many days of food you will need to cover in the worst-case scenario.
WeatherBug meteorologists will make sure to keep you and your friendly pets safe during the harsh winter months. Make sure to check out the WeatherBug App or website for the latest news on wintery weather that may be breezing through this season!
