Snowfall Forecast Through Saturday Night

Late season snow and ice will move across the northern states today through Saturday night, impacting the northern Rockies to the Upper Midwest and northern New England.

A disturbance will make its way from the northern Rockies to the Upper Midwest today, bringing a wide swath of moderate to heavy snow with it. Parts of northern Minnesota, the Dakotas, and eastern Montana and Wyoming are expected to receive 4-to-10 inches of snow through Saturday, with locally higher amounts of 10-to-14 inches possible.

Just south of the snow, a wintry mix including freezing rain will stretch from South Dakota into central Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, and northern Michigan. Up to a quarter-inch of ice accumulation is possible for most, but higher amounts up to a half-inch could impact northern Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Winter Storm Warnings, Winter Weather Advisories, and Ice Storm Warnings sit along this wintry stretch from Montana and Wyoming to northern Michigan.

There will also be a round of snow and ice across parts of northern New England heading into the end of the week. There is some residual snow and ice in northern Maine this morning, then another round of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will move into much of northern New England Saturday evening through Saturday night.

Additional snow and sleet amounts should be fairly light for most of northern New England, but northern Maine could see several inches of new snow. Much of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine will have ice accumulations up to a quarter-inch, but slightly higher amounts are possible in northern New Hampshire and northern Maine. Winter Weather Advisories cover most of these areas, but there is a Winter Storm Warning in place for far northern Maine.

In the event of possible impacted driving conditions, it is important to stay prepared and informed. You can better prepare yourself by having a winter weather kit packed with a battery-operated radio, water, non-perishable food items, and extra layers. Additionally, check the WeatherBug app frequently for any updates on upcoming winter weather.
