Rain forecast through Saturday

Scattered thunderstorms will continue to produce locally heavy rainfall in parts of the Gulf states through Saturday.

A slow-moving cold front should stall late today into tonight as it sags southward from Texas to South Carolina. Along and south of this front, scattered thunderstorms will continue to develop throughout the day. As a result, repeated thunderstorm activity could produce locally heavy rainfall of 2 to 4 inches from eastern Texas and northern Louisiana to southern Georgia and far northern Florida.

Flood Watches are in place in eastern Louisiana, southern Mississippi, southern Alabama, southwestern Georgia, and the western Florida Panhandle. These areas were also hit by heavy rain from the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur on Thursday, increasing the flooding potential for today.

The same areas could see additional flooding concerns on Saturday as the front remains stalled across the Deep South. Thunderstorms will be capable of dropping an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain from eastern Texas to southern Georgia and northern Florida over the course of the day.

Remember, if you approach a roadway covered in water, it is best to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown!”
