-URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Juneau AK 652 PM AKST Tue Jan 13 2026 Glacier Bay-Eastern Chichagof Island- Cape Fairweather to Lisianski Strait-Admiralty Island- City and Borough of Juneau- Including the cities of Gustavus, Hoonah, Tenakee Springs, Elfin Cove, Pelican, Angoon, and Juneau 652 PM AKST Tue Jan 13 2026 ...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM AKST WEDNESDAY... * WHAT...Southeast winds 25 to 40 mph with gusts to around 65 mph expected. * WHERE...Glacier Bay including Gustavus, Eastern Chichagof Island including Hoonah, Cape Fairweather to Lisianski Strait including Elfin Cove and Pelican, Admiralty Island including Angoon, and City and Borough of Juneau. * WHEN...From 6 PM Tuesday to 9 AM AKST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...High winds will blow around unsecured objects and may damage property and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A strong quick moving system will push through the Gulf of Alaska Tuesday into Wednesday. This low will allow for winds to quickly increase Tuesday afternoon, first over southern portions of the panhandle then moving northward. The central panhandle is most likely to see the strongest wind gusts from 9 pm Tuesday to 3 am Wednesday. This timing can change as the system moves closer. Confidence has increased in the system bringing very strong wind gusts around 65 mph, but stronger gusts could occur if the low tracks closer to the panhandle. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... People are urged to secure vessels and loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind. -NONE Civil Emergency Message City and Borough of Juneau Alaska Relayed by National Weather Service Juneau AK 1048 AM AKST Tue Jan 13 2026 ...CITY AND BOROUGH OF JUNEAU AVALANCHE EVACUATION ADVISORY... The following message is transmitted at the request of the City and Borough of Juneau Manager's Office. The avalanche evacuation advisory remains in effect for the Behrends slide path. Avalanche risk on Behrends path is INCREASING due to incoming heavy rain, high winds, and warming temperatures at high elevations through Wednesday. The evacuation advisory had been lifted for other known slide paths, however, avalanche risk remains elevated. An emergency shelter remains available at Centennial Hall. Emergency response crews are staged to respond in the event of an avalanche. Please limit travel in avalanche exposed areas. The Department of Transportation will close Thane Road at the avalanche gates at noon Tuesday due to high avalanche hazard on the roadway. Updates will be available on 511.alaska.gov. CBJ and the Department of Transportation are actively monitoring and assessing avalanche risk for all known slide paths and will provide updates as conditions change.
