Weekend Weather Preview

A warm, wet, and wild weekend in terms of our weather is in store for millions across the country, facing rounds of showers and storms.

Saturday

Warm, humid, and unstable air will set the stage for active weather from the Southeast up through the Mid-Atlantic and interior Northeast, extending into the Midwest, much of the Central and High Plains, Mountain West, Desert Southwest, and interior Pacific Northwest. While possible throughout the day, the best chance for rain and thunderstorms will be in the afternoon and evening hours as activity becomes more widespread. Some of this rain in the Midwest, southern Plains and Desert Southwest will become locally heavy and could lead to flash flooding.

On the positive side, the atmospheric setup will help to keep much of New England, South-Central U.S, central High Plains, and Southwest high and dry with clear or partly cloudy skies.

The Northeast, Midwest, and High Plains can expect seasonable high temperatures in the 70s and 80s. In the Mid-Atlantic, highs will be in the 90s, with the exception of the Appalachian Spine, where temperatures will peak in the 80s. In the South, South-Central U.S., and the Low Plains, temperatures will be hot, reaching the 90s and the triple digits.

Meanwhile most of the West will see highs in the 70s and 80s, however, higher terrain will be significantly cooler, peaking in the 50s and 60s. On the other hand, southwestern Arizona along with California’s Central Valley will be warmer, with highs in the 90s and 100s.

Sunday

For the most part, Mother Nature plans to keep our hot, humid and soggy weather pattern in full swing this Sunday, but some will get a much-needed break from the rain.

Soggy, stormy weather is possible throughout the day for the East Coast through the Lower Midwest and Central Plains, extending up into the Western Plains, along with parts of the Desert Southwest and Mountain West. The best chance for showers and storms will be later in the day, as more storms pop up, organize, and become more widespread in the afternoon and evening hours.

The Upper Midwest and High Plains will finally have break from the rain, while the West Coast and the South-Central U.S. continues to stay under clear of any weather headaches.

Much of the West will see highs in the 70s and 80s, however, higher terrain will be significantly cooler, peaking in the 50s and 60s. Another exception to this is southwestern Arizona along with California’s Central Valley which will be warmer, with highs in the 90s and 100s.

Meanwhile, most of the Northeast, Midwest, and High Plains will seasonable high temperatures in the 70s and 80s. In the Lower Midwest and the Mid-Atlantic, highs will be in the 80s and 90s. In the South, South-Central U.S., and the Low Plains, expect hot highs in the 90s and the triple digits.
